Ski Preparation at the Swix School

Those of you new to owning your own skis might find the Swix Video and audio lessons helpful in understanding ski preparation.  However, please do not follow the bad example set in the various videos where the experienced technicians appear to have no regard for safety.  Ski edges can be very sharp, even like razors.  One slip when preparing skis can cause serious injury.

WHEN PREPARING SKIS ALWAYS USE STRONG GLOVES THAT COVER THE HANDS AND WRISTS SEVERAL INCHES UP YOUR ARMS.

Check out the various videos and audio.  You might find the Sport section better than the Recreation or Race section.  The skis are being prepared for snow, not dry slope skiing although much of the technique is similar.  Hopefully we will include some lessons on how experienced dry slope racers prepare their skis at a later date.  Don't be afraid to ask a racer's opinion as you might find their knowlege is helpful.

Don't sharpen your skis recklessly and try to use a diamond file much more often that a chrome file. Your skis will last longer and may suffer less damage.  Use your iron carefully and keep it moving all the time.
